Mangrove Swamps National Sanctuary of Tumbes.

This natural protected area contains the unique representative sample of a mangrove swamp system in Peru. With this tour will get to know an untouched area of this beautiful national sanctuary.

Over two hundred bird species are protected in this area - many of them unique to this area - and has been recognized as an ecosystem of international importance as it is a temporary rest stop for tens of migratory birds.

The mangroves inhabit this estuary where salt water from the sea and fresh water from the river mix, forming in this way one of the most productive ecosystems teeming with life.

The aphrodisiac black scallops come only from this place.   We can also find prawns, crabs and a large variety of commercially important fish species.

We invite you to travel on canoes along the channels of the mangrove forest and enjoy its fantastic scenery and sounds. Here you will enjoy a full and close contact with nature.
