Over two hundred bird species are protected in this area - many of them unique to this area - and has been recognized as an ecosystem of international importance as it is a temporary rest stop for tens of migratory birds.
The mangroves inhabit this estuary where salt water from the sea and fresh water from the river mix, forming in this way one of the most productive ecosystems teeming with life.
The aphrodisiac black scallops come only from this place. We can also find prawns, crabs and a large variety of commercially important fish species.
